Yeongdo & Taejongdae
One Day in Yeongdo, Busan|Huinnyeoul Culture Village, National Maritime Museum & Taejongdae
Alleys that open onto the sea, a maritime museum that works well even on rainy days, and forest paths leading to dramatic coastal cliffs — a one-day Yeongdo itinerary for first-time visitors.

You’ve come all the way to Busan — it would be a shame to see the sea only once.
In the morning, the sea suddenly appears between narrow alleys. In the afternoon, you watch ships moving across the harbour. By late afternoon, a forest path opens onto cliffs and a wide horizon.
On Yeongdo, you can experience all of these completely different coastal scenes in a single day.
ELISE is here on Yeongdo, so we spend a lot of time around this part of the island. This is the route we’d give a friend on their first visit: “If you’ve only got one day, start with this.”
Today's route Huinnyeoul Culture Village → lunch → National Maritime Museum → Taejongdae → evening
It’s a good fit for friends who want to take photos, as well as families and anyone travelling with parents.
MorningHuinnyeoul Culture Villagewhere the alleys open to the sea
Start your day on Yeongdo at Huinnyeoul Culture Village (흰여울문화마을).
Follow the narrow lanes and the view suddenly opens onto blue water. The sea appears above low rooftops, with large ships scattered in the distance — that’s when it really sinks in that you’re on Yeongdo.
Don’t just stop at the famous photo spots and move on.
Every alley and little flight of steps changes the view. The sea slips in and out behind walls and rooftops, then reappears around the next corner.
If you enjoy taking photos, you’ll keep finding yourself saying, “One more here.”

Head downhill and you’ll reach the Jeoryeong Coastal Walk (절영해안산책로), which follows the shoreline below the village.
The same sea you were looking down on from the alleys is now close enough for you to hear the waves.

LunchA short break before the next stop
After the alleys and the coastal walk, it's time for a break.
Stop for lunch or take a break at a café before moving on. From here, the route continues toward the eastern side of Yeongdo and the National Maritime Museum.

Ready to go? Next stop: the National Maritime Museum.
AfternoonNational Maritime Museuma different way to experience the sea
Next stop is the National Maritime Museum of Korea (국립해양박물관).
After a morning outdoors, head inside for a change of pace. Here, the sea becomes something to explore through exhibitions rather than simply admire from the shore.
It’s especially good for families with children, and it’s an easy stop to keep in your itinerary on very hot days or when the weather suddenly turns rainy.

Once you’ve finished inside, don’t leave straight away. Step outside for the open sea and harbour views, which feel quite different from the water you saw at Huinnyeoul in the morning.
It’s the same island, but the sea looks different at every stop.

Late afternoonTaejongdaewhere the forest path meets the sea
Now for the highlight of Yeongdo: Taejongdae (태종대).
Follow the forest road and glimpses of blue begin to appear between the trees. Then the view opens up to coastal cliffs and a broad sweep of sea.
After the alleys and harbour views, Taejongdae gives you Yeongdo’s bigger, more dramatic seascape.

Taejongdae is bigger than it looks from the entrance.
On a first visit, don’t feel you have to see everything. Choose what to cover based on your group’s energy and how much time you have left — you’ll enjoy it more.

On a clear late afternoon, the light filtering through the trees makes the sea views especially beautiful.

If you’re travelling with parents or young children, check the park’s transport options before you go.
We’ll cover Taejongdae in a separate guide, including how long to allow, parking, suggested routes, walking sections and tips for visiting with parents.
EveningThe sightseeing is overbut you’re not ready to call it a day
By the time you’ve made your way from Huinnyeoul to the museum and Taejongdae, evening has arrived.
If there are just two of you, dinner and the next stop are easy enough. With a group of friends, family or colleagues, the evening can be a little harder to plan.
You may not want to linger in a restaurant, and cafés aren’t always ideal for a larger group that wants to talk for hours. But ending the day right there can feel too soon.
That’s when booking a private space just for your group can make sense.

First time? Start with these three
There’s more to see on Yeongdo than many first-time visitors expect.
For a first visit, though, don’t try to tick off too many places. Start with these three.
Huinnyeoul Culture Village → National Maritime Museum → Taejongdae
Alleys and sea views, harbour scenery, indoor exhibits, forest and coastal cliffs — the scenery keeps changing throughout the day, making this an easy way to see several sides of Yeongdo in one trip.
And if Yeongdo wins you over, come back and do it differently next time: spend a day hopping between cafés, follow the coast, or give Taejongdae more time.
On Yeongdo, the same sea can feel completely different depending on where you’re standing.
The ELISE Guide will keep sharing places and routes around Yeongdo and Busan that we’ve explored ourselves.
